The biggest event of nanotechnology industry in Europe is held virtually for the second time this year
The multi-event NANOTEXNOLOGY is Europe’s biggest event for the nanotechnology industry, bringing together several hundred researchers, scientists and experts from all over the world every year, from Columbia University in New York to Harvard University, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan, the University of Zurich and the University of Cambridge.
Organised by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the 2020 event was held for the first time as a hybrid event – the entire infrastructure of the event was mocked up and implemented on a virtual platform using the GDPR-compliant alfaview® video conferencing software. A floor plan links to various virtual rooms such as individual booths, poster presentations, lecture rooms and a large forum for joint events. This allows visitors to navigate between the various conference rooms.
This year, the event will again be held in both traditional and virtual formats, making it easier for participants from all over the world to attend the event safely and comfortably, regardless of the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic. Berlin physicist Dr. Konstantinos Fostiropoulos, who as a member of the event’s International Scientific Committee played a key role in the hybrid implementation, is convinced by the new event format and reports: “The feedback has been positive throughout”. Thanks to alfaview®, all relevant aspects for a conference, from networking in a small setting to presentations in front of a large audience, can be implemented virtually.
